Have you ever thought of what stands in a way of your success? Long story short – most likely it’s YOU. To be more specific – it’s the lack of self-esteem. That happens to all of us. No one is bulletproof and if you see a mega confident person, know this – they worked on it.

1. Choose yourself.

“brave girl, choose yourself” – r.h. Sin

Let’s talk about the most important person in the world – you. If you don’t love yourself, then who will? It’s that simple. It’s imperative to define what YOU want, not your friends or parents. And then stand your ground. Choose yourself, take care of yourself, nurture yourself. It’s a daily process, it’s a habit that requires work and it’s worth it because you worth it.

2. Ignore non-constructive criticism.

“The dogs bark but the caravan goes on” – Russian proverb

People with opinions always were there and always will be. Doesn’t mean we should listen to all of them. If other people’s opinions are something you rely on, you basically handle them your self-worth. And as Cristopher Barzak wrote in his book “One for sorrow”, “They’ll drop it. They’ll drop it every time.”

3. All by myself…

“Working on myself, by myself, for myself” – Unknown

So, by now we established that you are the priority. And if shove comes to push it’s everyone for themselves. You can’t be responsible for other people’s actions toward you, but it’s your responsibility for how you react. It’s on you. No one is going to present you with self-confidence. The only true validation and only one that matters is from you.

4. Celebrate every small success.

“Success is a series of small wins” – Jaime Tardy

Self-confidence doesn’t happen overnight. Celebrate every teeny-tiny success. It can be a small thing. You made it on time today, you made someone smile, you recycle, you didn’t complain over small insignificant matters. Everything counts. Pat yourself on a shoulder – you just grew yourself some self-confidence.

5. Affirmative.

“Mirror, mirror on the wall…” – Brothers Grimm

And last but not least – you have to pep talk yourself. Another great habit that helps. You want to have faith in yourself? Tell it to your reflection in the mirror, write it down in a journal. Do it daily. “I am amazing”, “I am enough”, “I can do it”. This will boost your self-confidence in a minute.

The only validation we need is from ourselves. And for that, we need to accept who we are. We need to feel good about ourselves. Sometimes what stands between a breakthrough and a total failure is a smile and someone saying “You’re doing alright. Keep going!” And sometimes the only person who is there for you – is you. And while you work on that daily habit, you will need a reminder. So why not put it on a t-shirt? It’s that simple! And most importantly IT WORKS!
